My plan was to start school tomorrow, taking today to get prepared. BUT, plans changed last night when Danny said, "Mom, can we start school tomorrow?" Do you know that I almost had a heart attack? ;) Okay, not quite, but this question from a boy who is never ready to start school?
In May, the kids went along to the Florida Homeschool Convention. I had Danny come with me to the My Father's World booth, to see what his first year of high school studies looked like. I was a little worried, because I had been by the booth earlier and spoke to a representative. She told me that the first year of High School is based a lot on literature and writing! Writing is one of his least favorite things.
But shockingly, when he came by the booth and the lady talked to him about what all is involved, he was excited! A lot of it was because of the books he was going to be able to read. I can't say that he gets his love of classic literature from me.... :)
So, today was Day 1 of the 2013-2014 school year!! :)
We started out with a hot breakfast of Blueberry Stuffed French Toast. :)
The past few years, we have been doing school in the living room, but this year, they chose to start working at the kitchen table.
They got into their studies very quickly. This is the first year in 5 years, that they will be doing separate lessons in My Father's World. Tamara is finishing the 5 year cycle with 1850- Modern Times, while Danny began the 1st of 4 years of High School, studying Ancient History & Literature.
Reading the Student Plan book to get acquainted with the daily lesson plans.
Tamara began with Bible class...
Danny, age 14
Grade: 9
He measured 5' 9 3/4" this morning.
Tamara, age 12
Grade: 7
measured 5' 4"
Reminiscing......
This was in Sept. 2004, Danny's first day of Kindergarten at Conrad Weiser in Womelsdorf, PA.
Ready to walk out to the bus stop....with his little sis, Tamara, who was going to miss him very much during his half days at school! :)
This is the same two kids on Danny's first day of High School! :) But this time, they get to study together!! :)
Dan came home from work, that first day, to walk Danny to the bus and see him off!
Danny was so excited to be going to school and to "make new friends". He was so much a people person!!
And there he goes....so little, yet so eager to be a "big guy"! :) And Mom shed a few tears.
I can't believe how fast those years flew by and we are at this stage already. The tears come again as I realize the young man our son is turning in to! I want to enjoy the next few years to the max!!
Wishing all my fellow home school Mom's the best year ever!! Let's enjoy every moment while our kids are growing. These are days we will never get back!!
