Today was our first day of school for the 2010-2011 school year!! :) Can hardly believe how fast our summer went by, but we were mostly ready to get back into the books again! :)
It's hard to believe I have a 6th grader already. It seems I just started out on this homeschooling venture! :O
And how can it be that my "baby" is in 4th grade already?? Just another reminder to cherish these days and not wish them away!!
Pics with their favorite pets....Mocha and ?? I don't know if they ever named the kitten!?? :P Ok, Tamara says Danny wants to call it Misty, but she prefers Reepacheep. :) I've never heard it being called either name....usually just "kitty". :)
Our school day started at 8:30 with devotions. Followed by Math, English, Writing, History and Science.
For Math this year, we are using Horizons by Alpha & Omega.
English~ both of the children are going through this book. It is kind of a review book on the major parts of speech, but I feel like it covers each part well, so maybe those parts they didn't grasp as well will be well explained!
They started out by doing assessment tests on each part, then we will start in to the real lessons when they are through with that.
Their Copy Work books....
Tamara is also learning cursive writing. I know that is usually learned earlier than all this, but the past curriculum's we used didn't teach it and I didn't ever teach it as an extra. She did learn some in Kindergarten, but never continued on with practice!
We are using My Father's World -Creation to the Greeks- this year.
Started out talking about the basics....the first day of Creation! I think we are really going to enjoy this year. I just need to learn to plan ahead, so we have supplies on hand for all the fun projects and experiments! :)
So there is a taste of the 1st day of school in our house! Oh, yeh, we were done by 11:30 with only 2 10 minute breaks in there! I don't expect most days to go that quickly, though!
